New trial: Environmental Impact

Environmental Impact is an internet resource created in response to demand from the scientific community, policy makers and information specialists for a single comprehensive bibliographic information resource on climate change and other influences of humans on the biosphere. It also covers other aspects of man's damage to the environment such as pollution, deforestation, desertification and habitat loss.
Stockholm University Library has a trial until the 15th of October.

Scifinder enhancements

New SciFinder enhancements will be available via the web browser. These enhancements include new search, analytical, and collaboration tools.
Some of the new features include:
*Get similar reactions
*Limit reaction searches by select solvents
* Sort reaction answer sets (e.g., by number of steps, percentage yield,publication year, or similarity)
* Export physical property data to Microsoft Excel
* Tag references with helpful descriptive user-defined terms
* Add comments to references for sharing information and insights with colleagues
* Link to other SciFinder users within your research site to share both researchcomments and tagged references

New trial: Reaxys

Reaxys is a web-based search and retrieval system for chemical compounds, bibliographic data and chemical reactions. It is built to support chemists in their daily work with relevant information in chemistry.
Reaxys is currently being developed by the team responsible for the introduction of CrossFire Beilstein.
Stockholm University Library has a trial until the 14th of October.

Oxford Reference Online unavailable due to maintenance

On Saturday 5 September some routine maintenance to the web servers on which Oxford Reference Online runs will be undertaken. The site will be down for up to an hour between 0700 and 0800 BST.

JBC Thematic Minireview Series

New trial: SpringerMaterials (beta version)

In Januray 2010 Springer will launch SpringerMaterials - The Landolt-Börnstein Database. It will be the most comprehensive electronic content platform in the physical sciences. By the time of the launch SpringerMaterials will be based on over 400 volumes of the Landolt-Börnstein New Series.

New database: IEL Civil Procedure from Kluwer Law

The Civil Procedure volumes of the International Encyclopaedia of Laws provide descriptions and analysis of numerous domestic systems. National monographs describe the main features of each country’s judicial organization, the rules governing the jurisdiction of the courts, the actual court proceedings, the rules of evidence, the principles governing preliminary seizure and the enforcement of judgments, and some elements of national arbitration.

Faceted Searching to be added to JSTOR

JSTOR will introduce a new "faceted search" feature in early July. The faceted search will offer a number of different options to expand and refine search results. Faceted searching and search results will allow you to visualize how the returned articles are distributed among categories, or "facets." For instance, with faceted search you can see how many of your results are in each discipline, how many are book reviews or full-length articles, and how many articles contain images, among other options. You'll be able to modify your search results by choosing specific facets, and all search results pages will now incorporate the facets sidebar to make modifications easier.
